"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frighten us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -- Marianne Williamson, from her book A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles (1992)

What do I believe?

People often ask me...what are you?

Awkward question, ei?
This day and age a lot of Christian denominations have been established and if you don't know the Word for your self, you can get carried away with people's words instead of God's word.

Ephesians 4:14
King James Version (KJV)

 14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

These are videos that gives a short explanation of what I believe!

Be-Attitudes!!!

Most of us have issues...
we really can't do anything about that.
--if that's your way of thinking, you'll definitely have a hard time being at peace with the people around you because you are going to have to deal with different attitudes on a daily basis.

Now if  you have a good attitude, people will be drawn to you. But if you don't, you know the rest.
And so, maybe it's time to drop the "who cares?" question and start thinking "at least I care about myself, and I don't want to be clashing with anyone at any given time." It sounds selfish if that's how you take it. But it's a step. Initiative does start with an "I", you know. It's not impossible, it's just how you approach it. Your way of thinking really makes or breaks any attempt you make for anything!!!

But then you say, "you don't understand. You don't know what I'm going through." Yes, I am not in your shoes, I don't know how you feel and I don't know the things that you have to deal with. But realize that the things that you go through, all the bad things that bring you down, are catalysts. If you don't hate something enough, you won't leave it or stop doing it. You won't change because you're thinking to yourself "it's not ALL THAT BAD, right?" Or you'd say to your self, "Oh, I'll change eventually." "When so and so happens, I'll change." Well, it doesn't work that way, It's either you decide for yourself and start working on it. Like what my friend would say:

It has to get worse before it gets better.

These bad things that you can't bare, make you appreciate and cherish the good stuff. The Bible talks about a list of things that you don't want to experience and equated them with wonderful promises--they are called the Beatitudes.

Breaking Through, 2

Desperate times tend to bring out our real selves. Then again, it depends on what exactly you mean by 'desperate times'.

Like Howl from the movie 'Howl's Moving Castle' (some of you may know him from the original novel by Diana Wynne Jones). His desperate time was when Sophie cleaned his bathroom and accidentally 'meddled' with his hair dyes. Here, we see just how vain he really is. Another character, Markl, remarked that the last time he moped this much was when a girl left him.

So I suppose 'desperate times' do vary. But see, this is the beauty of movie-making and first-class storytelling: you can have more than one layer, and for each layer, a different direness. A different insecurity. A different self. A different point of view, a new perception. Layer after layer of you until you get to the core. Obviously, Howl's hair plight isn't the point of the film but rather, how he and Sophie shed that insecurity, learning how to live with who they really are.

Our discovery of our real selves is what makes us beautiful, don't you think?

Breaking Through

Someone asked me who my favourite character from ‘Spirited Away’ is. It’s hard to make a decision like that; I mean, you can’t just say that you love one character. It’s Miyazaki – ALL his characters are perfect. I mean, honestly, even the Radish Spirit is amazing. And all he does is creep Chihiro out in the elevator and dance a weird funky dance near the end. Right.

So then, I can’t really pick; each and every character in this film changes in one capacity or another. Ok, maybe not a complete change, but rather, OUR views of them change because we see another side of them that was never shown before. For example, Kamajii. At first, we him as a really rough and gruff old man with six arms, stuck in the boiler room with no one but his magic soot balls to keep him company. He’s not very likeable, but then his true self starts shining as the movie progresses. The real and caring Kamajii – so caring that he can easily recognise it in others as well, even though they don’t see it for themselves. He helped Chihiro get to Zeniba’s (Yubaba’s twin) place by giving her the tickets that he’s been saving for his own escape for forty years! He also took care of Haku when he was very sick. I mean, isn’t that sweet or what?

Color your world...with JOY!!!

I've always wondered what would I need to be.
In fact, my favorite line when I see happiness in things apart from myself
I would look at a friend, try to make the "Puppy Eyes", and say with a little girl's voice:

Ma or Dad...am I allowed to be happy?
I actually have more lines I use when speaking about joy or happiness:
"If I had", "If I were", "If only", and all the ifs and should've-would've-could've-s
after a missed opportunity for happiness.

But what I have learned is that JOY is not mutually exclusive with HAPPINESS.
From what I've heard, you are happy because something happened, happiness is based on happenings.
On the other hand, JOY is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.

So that's why the adjective is joyful, because you can associate joy with man and happiness to circumstance. Therefore, with Joy, we can be happy no matter the situation.
With joy, we can choose not to worry and be happy.

Happiness is easy to achieve if you've got joy in your heart.

Smile before you leave this page! =]

Proudly Filipino!!!

Filipinos are awesome!!!

SOOOOOOO...

I'm sitting on my bed, in my room, minding my own business,
when suddenly, my brother comes in and tells me he found this really funny video from youtube about a series of videos on Filipino Tutorials.
These videos are made by Mikey Bustos: a Filipino-Canadian from Toronto who was the seventh runner-up in the finals of Canadian Idol Season 1 in August 2003.

In this particular video, he mimics how Filipinos with hard accents speaks English in a very humble and honest way. He explains why certain filipinos have this accent and why it's so funny for filipinos like us is that he does it really well. This is really how some of our old folks would speak english. But don't get us wrong, not all filipinos speak this way.

War

You know what I realized? 'Grave of the Fireflies' doesn't endorse any ideology nor does it make Japan out as an innocent bystander in the war.

It shows us that wars are not only fought with guns, knives and bombs by adults; it is also fought by children who have nothing in their arsenal but their hearts and their indomitable will to live.

Existential Moment

Life can be so harsh...

This is the moment in your life when you just wish you can step back from your life and just watch the world pass by because you're too tired of catching up to it.

What to do with life nowadays?

Everything just seems like it's telling you to just give up.

I just finished watching "Grave of the Fireflies" [Hotaru no Haka] from Studio Ghibli
and it did not help at all. It is a story about a young boy and his sister after World War 2.

All the drama and depression just drags you to sulk even more than you normally would...but then again...you realize it's up to you if you will choose to sit down and be depressed or get up and do something about it when nobody else did. Remembering Seita's way of coping with their situation, it makes you realize that if you let your circumstance defeat you, there is no way out.

This movie just shows how every individual's choices: whether moral or political, personal or general-- can gravely affect the lives of their neighbor.

Makes you want to ask...what is life really all about?

Nothing Like The Word

All of us have our days: ups & downs, victories and loses
some days go our way, and some that just doesn't
And for there are days...we just want to throw the towel.

Funny how I thought about Dora for this post:

Who to we go for help

when we don't know which way to go?

Ahaha! Right! We talk to God! That's the best way!
Ask the author and finisher of our faith.
Tell Him all our regrets, fears and frustrations.

But the most effective way of facing anything in this world is through His very Words. Now here's some numbers you can look up for the need of the moment!

Now reading is good, understanding would be better,
but memorizing and putting them to heart is best!

Be blessed now!

The Things I love

Did I mention I love Chalk?

I remember drawing a castle for a little boy on the rough cement at the park.
I remember taking coal from the outdoor furnace of our house and using them to draw on the moss-covered walls.
I remember scraping away.
I remember playing oracle -- interpreting the lines I made and the lines that are already on the walls.
I remember the rain washing them away.
I remember empty walls.
I remember starting over...ephemeral...simple...hmm...I do remember.
And now...my childhood has a different interpretation. The medium has reached the market.
Everything seems owned now...patents...right to ideas...what is the limit?
to control? to own? to possess?
There is nothing original in this world.
There is nothing that another person have not thought of already...
And yet nothing is exactly the same.
Even the same person cannot recreate something exactly the same way
s/he did something the first time.
Fleeting...short-lived...momentous...existential?
And did I mention I love chalk?
